Graham Nash heard some of David Crosby's final words before his death.
The music industry mourns nearly a month after the legendary musician died. Reports about David Crosby's cause of death surfaced, saying he died following a "long illness."
Before his passing on Jan. 18, the singer-songwriter reportedly called his former bandmate, Nash, to apologize to him.
Speaking in an interview with AARP, Nash revealed that Crosby sent him a voicemail telling him he wanted to talk to him to apologize. They did not know, however, that the voice call was Crosby's last.
"[Crosby] had sent me a voicemail saying that he wanted to talk to apologize, and could we set up a time to talk," he said. "I emailed him back and said, 'OK, call me at 11 o'clock tomorrow your time, which is two o'clock on the East Coast.' He never called, and then he was gone."
Nash was asked whether he knew Crosby's days were numbered soon after hearing the voicemail. Per the singer, it was possible since the late musician was a very intelligent man. He added that they had been expecting his death for the past 20 years.
David Crosby's Last Call Touched Graham Nash
The 81-year-old "I Used to Be a King" crooner noted that Crosby's voicemail made his death a little easier to accept as it was. Despite their past feuds, receiving the call reportedly made him realize they could still get together in the end.
Nash reminisced how the late singer became his best friend for over 50 years. Amid his mourning, he also focused on the good stuff they shared together before David Crosby's death.

Nash referenced the feud Crosby addressed during his 2016 interview with Howard Stern. Per the late musician, he let his Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young bandmates down.
At that time, Crosby also revealed that he remained in contact with Stephen Stills. Meanwhile, Neil Young cut him off completely after he reportedly insulted his then-girlfriend, Daryl Hannah.
Crosby ultimately passed away in January, with his family revealing he died after a long illness.
"He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django," the Crosby family said in a statement obtained by CNN. "Although he is no longer here with us, his humanity and kind soul will continue to guide and inspire us. His legacy will continue to live on through his legendary music."
