Rihanna's ASL interpreter went viral following her appearance at Sunday's Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Rihanna turned people's heads when she performed at Glendale, Arizona's State Farm Stadium for the 2023 Super Bowl. She hyped fans even more when she showed her growing baby bump on stage to confirm her pregnancy.
But aside from the "Lift Me Up" hitmaker, her ASL interpreter also stole the spotlight.
Deaf TikTok sensation Justina Miles went viral after passionately singing Rihanna's song with her body movements. She served as one of the three performers at the show, joining deaf Navajo scholar Colin Denny and actor Troy Kotsur.
The trio gave onscreen services to deaf viewers and people experiencing hearing problems.
During Rihanna's performance, Miles offered the same amount of energy as the singer did.
After watching her, fans immediately showered her with compliments and made her a trend on Twitter. Among the comments read:
"The ASL Interpreter for the Super Bowl went in harder than Rihanna! #SuperBowl2023 #SuperBowlHalftimeShow #Rhianna."
"I really wish this ASL interpreter got some national airtime during Rihanna's Halftime performance," another exclaimed, per Newsweek. "SHE IS GETTING HER LIFE, LITERALLY ATE AND LEFT ZERO CRUMBS!!!!!"
Miles also made history by becoming the first woman deaf performer at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Justina Miles Wants To Bring Empowerment
Before her performance at the halftime show, Miles, sat for an interview with CNBC at a pre-Super Bowl press conference on Thursday in which she spoke about the historic experience she had.
According to the performer, who is studying nursing at HBCU Bowie State University, she feels like she is lifting everyone's voices with her passion.
"Not only for me to share this experience with the whole world, but to really bring that empowerment to millions and millions of Black deaf people all over the country who've never really seen that before," she went on.
Miles also expressed her gratitude after becoming part of the historic show.
The National Association of the Deaf has since listed all the achievements the ASL interpreter has made so far. She graduated as a valedictorian at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf. She also scored a silver medal as a member of the 4x100 women's track relay team at the 2021-22 Deaflympics in Brazil.
Miles revealed how much she hoped her spotlight would also inspire others to achieve their dreams regardless of the obstacles in life.
