T-Pain is known to use auto-tune liberally in his music, but for his upcoming album "On Top of the Covers," he's ditching the auto-tune to show off his real vocals.
The "Buy U a Drink" rapper teased the project on Valentine's Day through his Twitter account, "Buckle up because I got an announcement coming tomorrow," after a fan commended him for his remixes.
According to reports, "On Top of the Covers" is slated for release on Mar. 17, and T-Pain has big plans with his first-ever cover album.
He will be performing two shows in Los Angeles' Sun Rose at West Hollywood on Mar. 17 and 18 in support of the album.
"This covers album has been years in the making. I started recording this right after I won The Masked Singer," T-Pain shared.
"It got put on hold for a bit but now that I'm independent, I'm able to do whatever I want to do through Nappy Boy Entertainment and this is something I've felt strongly about for a long time."
This is the rapper's first album in years. He released "The Lost Remixes" in 2020, while his last studio album, "1UP," was released in 2019, and "Oblivion" in 2017.
"These songs are not what you'd expect when you hear that T-Pain is doing a covers album and that is what I think is cool about it," he added.
True enough, the songs on the upcoming album are definitely not the genre T-Pain is known to perform or sing, but he has shown just how well he can handle it without auto-tune.
According to Rolling Stone, he won the first season of "The Masked Singer" in 2019, where he performed "I Love Rock N Roll" by Joan Jett, "Stay With Me" by Sam Smith, and "This Is How We Do It" by Montell Jordan.
"On Top of the Covers" will boast a seven-song tracklist, including "A Change is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke, "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, "Sharing the Night Together" by Dr. Hook, "Stay with Me" by Sam Smith, "Tennessee Whiskey" by Chris Stapleton, "That's Life" ft. NandoSTL by Frank Sinatra, and "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath.
Reports say that the tickets for the back-to-back shows in Los Angeles will be on sale on Feb. 17 at 10 A.M. local time via his official website.
