A day of music news cannot truly come to a close until a new Justin Bieber controversy surfaces. Yesterday, photographer Aja Oxman filed a lawsuit against Bieber and his bodyguard Dwayne Patterson after he allegedly suffered a physical beating in Hawaii, Billboard reports. Oxman is seeking damages for assault and battery, emotional distress, and negligence.
The alleged incident occurred back in Nov. 2013, when Bieber was visiting the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Oxman took some photos of Bieber cliff jumping, which was apparently a huge mistake, as it allegedly prompted Bieber to tell his bodyguard Patterson, "Go get his memory card and do whatever you have to do to get that memory card." Patterson then tracked Oxman down, allegedly putting him in a chokehold and slamming him down against the hood of a car.
Though Oxman says that Bieber didn't physically attack him, he does claim that Bieber destroyed his camera and was present for the beating, even claiming that Bieber "enjoyed the beating," according to TMZ. Another photographer apparently filmed the incident on his cell phone, though Patterson noticed this and allegedly threatened him as well, saying "You think I'm that stupid to get caught by one of your little phone cameras?"
Billboard points out that this is not the first lawsuit filed against Patterson for the alleged assault of a photographer. Back in May, photographer Michael Munoz sued Patterson as well, claiming that he had suffered a beating in Miami after photographing Justin Bieber exiting a nightclub.
Let this be a lesson to photographers: stop taking pictures of Justin Bieber. You won't get beat up, and Justin Bieber will stop being famous. Everyone wins.
