Sam Smith has been ruling over the headlines following the rollout of their newest album, "Gloria," to their back-to-back "Unholy" performance at the Grammy Awards and BRITS.

Now, Smith has been suffering the blowback of their controversial performance with Kim Petras on both awards shows.

Viewers have called out the "Gloria" star following the "demonic" and "satanic" imagery displayed throughout their performance.

Sam Smith 'Unholy' Grammy Performance

Before accepting the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Smith and Petras performed a racy and fiery number of their hit song "Unholy" at the Crypto.com arena.

Both stars, clad in bright hot red outfits, have raised eyebrows with their provocative clothing and choreography. However, it was Sam Smith's hat with devilish horns that had conservatives and right-wing commentators, and politicians fuming with anger.

Renowned right-wing personality Liz Wheeler garnered support against Sam Smith's "Unholy" performance in a now-viral tweet.

"Don't fight the culture wars, they say. Meanwhile, demons are teaching your kids to worship Satan. I could throw up," renowned commentator Liz Wheeler said.

Senator Ted Cruz echoed her sentiments, describing the performance to be "evil."

A week after, Smith and Petras performed the same song at the 2023 BRITS, but in a rather toned-down grunge garage performance.

However, Smith's devilish hat was still present, sparking another round of intense backlash among British conservatives.

It has also launched a hundred complaints at the United Kingdom Office of Communications, reporting them for the satanic imagery displayed on live television. The UK Office of Communications or OFCOM is the regulatory arm of the UK government that deals with broadcasting, telecommunications, and postal industries.

In an Apple Music interview, Smith expressed that they had experienced intense homophobia in the United Kingdom following their more vocal and public expression of gender in the past few years.

Following their performance at the Grammy Awards and the BRITS, Smith experienced the same thing in New York City.

In a now-viral video, Smith was seen walking at the Central Zoo in New York when an Irish woman heckled them.

"You belong in hell. Sam Smith belongs in hell. That demonic, twisted sick bastard. Leave the kids alone you sick f***er. Sam Smith is a pedophile," the lady screamed at Smith, who pulled out their camera and started recording. "You sick, motherf----r, Sam Smith. You're evil!"
