R. Kelly's prison sentence is yet to be finalized as his legal battle on several charges continues.
The latest development in R. Kelly's case involved federal prosecutors who want the disgraced singer to receive an additional 25 years of prison sentence. The request, which was filed on Thursday, was made based on the 2022 conviction on his child pornography charges.
According to Chicago Tribune, federal prosecutors want him to serve more years in jail on top of the 30-year term he already received following his racketeering conviction in New York. The prosecutors' request was sent to US District Judge Harry Leinenweber, as they hope for him to ensure that the "I Believe I Can Fly" hitmaker will die in prison and never come out again.
In the 37-page filing, the prosecutors slammed R. Kelly and his attorneys after they claimed that famous white musicians enjoyed a "pass" despite having relationships with underage girls.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jeannice Appenteng, Elizabeth Pozolo, Jason Julien, and Brian Williamson said R. Kelly's move proved that he does not understand that what he did was wrong.
"(Kelly) not only refuses to accept any responsibility for his conduct, but he repeatedly deflects any blame for his crimes, and instead advocates that he is being treated unfairly because, for example, 'other artists and musicians' should be prosecuted for these crimes," the filing continued.
The prosecutors explained they filed the document as they see no signs of rehabilitation on R. Kelly. Thus, ensuring his lifetime imprisonment will protect the community.
R. Kelly's Convictions Explored
R. Kelly and his attorney already knew that the singer had no hope amid his legal battle.
In January, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx, through her office, announced that it would drop four indictments related to the sexual abuse and assault charges filed against him. The lawyer explained that "sometimes justice is served even when there is no conviction," and that R. Kelly already received enough years that he would spend the rest of his life in prison.

R. Kelly's attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, said that R. Kelly felt no relief at all despite the dismissal of the charges.
"There is no real sense of relief. He is still fighting for his life. He is facing decades in prison," she told a news outlet.
R. Kelly has already been convicted by different federal courts due to the federal crimes he committed. Among the convictions are related to child pornography, racketeering, sex trafficking, and enticement, among others.
