Gunna and Young Thug's RICO YSL Trial has been one of the most controversial legal headaches that HipHop fans have had to face in the past year.

In May 2022, both rappers, including the latter's Young Slime Life music label, were accused of operating as a gang in Atlanta and for conspiring to violate the RICO Act of the city, among many other felony charges.

Gunna RICO YSL Update

However, before 2022 ended, Gunna, after numerous attempts to post a bond release, pleaded guilty to an Alford plea deal. Since then, he was egged on by the community, by fans and rappers alike, for snitching Thugger to the cops in exchange for freedom.

At the time, Gunna said in a statement that he had not cooperated nor given any statements to the authorities that would help the prosecution to strengthen their case against Young Thug.

In Gunna's plea deal, he pleads guilty to the crimes but maintains his innocence in exchange for a commuted sentence. Instead of five years in jail, it would be reduced to four since he has already spent almost a year in jail already.

Is Gunna A Snitch?

Based on his lawyers, Gunna was not a snitch. The clarification came about again when an Okplayer article was published, interviewing law experts about Gunna taking a plea deal.

The report painstakingly illuminates the most-asked questions on Gunna's case.

Basically, Gunna maintains his innocence in the case despite the state having the evidence to prove it, but since he wanted it to end, he would plead guilty.

Because of the misconception about taking a plea deal in black communities, the notion of Gunna's case has resulted in fans and rappers calling him a "snitch."

Aside from this, the article also elaborated that Gunna could testify on Young Thug's trial but could still plead the fifth if he wanted to; also highlighting that Gunna's plea deal doesn't mean they case against Thugger would strengthen, as Gunna's case was a different one.

The Okplayer article prompted Gunna's legal team to respond to the still ongoing allegations of snitching.

"Gunna has never been interviewed by or cooperated with law enforcement or prosecutors in the RICO case," Steve Sadow, Gunna's counsel, said. "Nor have his attorneys proffered information on his behalf. What was said at his Alford plea hearing was solely to resolve his own case. It cannot be used by the prosecution against Young Thug or any other defendant."
