Shawn Mendes is discussing the significant adjustments he has undergone in the past year - including shaving off his hair and letting down his fans by cancelling his tour.

In a recent interview with WSJ magazine, the "Wonder" singer describes his hair change, in which he ditched his characteristic locs for a buzz cut.

"I think everyone should know what they look like with a shaved head," the 24-year-old singer tells the publication. "I also was just feeling this urge to just shake myself up a little bit."

In order to focus on his mental health, the Canadian superstar canceled his Wonder World tour a year ago, which was another significant development. Although he claims that the decision to quit the route at the midway point was difficult, he felt it was necessary.

"The process was very difficult. A lot of doing therapy, a lot of trying to understand how I was feeling and what was making me feel that way," he says. "And then doing the work to help myself and heal. And also leaning on people in my life to help a little bit."

He added, "It's been a lot of work, but I think the last year and a half has been the most eye-opening and growing and beautiful and just healing process of my life. I'm also really grateful for all the people that were so accepting and loving and kind and understanding. And it just really made me see how culture is really starting to get to a place where mental health is really becoming a priority."

The cancellation of the tour included setting limits. A lesson that the "In My Blood" singer thinks aided him greatly on his recent path to maturity.

"Understanding how setting boundaries does not make you an unkind person has really changed my life," he tells WSJ magazine. "And also understanding that it's not easy to do. It's a difficult thing to do. It feels uncomfortable. It makes other people feel a little uncomfortable for a moment, but ultimately it's a very powerful and helpful thing to do for every relationship. So yeah, boundary-setting is not mean, it's actually very important. It's very kind, actually."

In addition to suspending his tour, the lead singer of Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile has not released any new music. Fortunately for fans, this may soon change.

"I'm at the point where I'm like, 'OK, I'm ready to start making some songs,'" he says. "Which is exciting."

Meanwhile, Shawn Mendes and Sabrina Carpenter are rumored to have been spotted together.

With smash songs such as "Stitches" and "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back," the 24-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter Mendes is no stranger to generating headlines over his almost decade-long career.

In 2023, though, Mendes' dating life may be the subject of new allegations that will make the focus even more intense.

Mendes and Carpenter, both 23 years old, were recently sighted at the Los Angeles restaurant Horses, according to a tip by celebrity gossip website DeuxMoi.

According to an unidentified insider, Mendes and Carpenter, a fellow singer and former star of "Girl Meets World" and "Mean Girls" on Broadway, were "obviously on a date Thursday night."
