Run The Jewels has finally confirmed that it will have a new record coming out by the end of 2014, and although it's been less than a year-and-a-half since the release of Run The Jewels, it still seems like a long-time coming. Collaborators El-P and Killer Mike have been hinting at the release for months on social media. Run The Jewels 2 will drop on October 28.
Along with the statement the group dropped the first track from the new album, titled "Blockbuster Night Part 1." It's a brief one but packs everything you'd expect at this point: Rumbling and thumping from the floor amps and sneering attacks from the emcees. Check it out at the bottom of the page.
The press release detailing the upcoming release confirms some facts that many already assumed to be true, namely that Rage Against The Machine frontman Zach De La Rocha and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker will appear as guests. Fans will also be able to buy physical copies of the record right out of the gate, wheres the first Run The Jewels chapter was only available as a download during its first run. This drop will also feature a new imprint for the group. The last album was released by Brooklyn's Fool's Gold but Run The Jewels 2 will head to Queens for Nas's Mass Appeal label.
No one sums up the Run The Jewels experience quite like the group members themselves however.
El-P: "We can make no promises about the safety of any animals involved in the creation of this record."
Killer Mike: "It's the best rap group album since RTJ1!"
