Katy Perry reportedly traumatized an "American Idol" contestant with her words during an audition three years ago.

A now-viral video on TikTok detailed how Perry became a contestant's nightmare after she commented on his supposed "American Idol" audition piece. The user, named Adriel Carrion, looked back at the time he tried his luck in the singing competition show but got triggered instead after appearing on it.

Katy Perry Reportedly Traumatized a Contestant

Carrion shared a video clip of the "The One That Got Away" hitmaker saying "we have officially banned everyone from singing 'Watermelon Sugar'" when he was auditioning for "American Idol" season 19. He was 18 at that time.

Lionel Richie, who was also serving as a judge at that time, asked Carrion and his fellow contestant Anthony Guzman what song they were going to perform. They said they had a "sweet duet."

Although they had not started singing yet, Perry warned them and said "not 'Watermelon Sugar'" as she looked at them with eyes wide open.

The video captured Carrion displaying a disappointed frown after hearing the 38-year-old singer's comment. She also added that she could not take another "Watermelon Sugar" but cursed after feeling that the duet would feature the same song.

"It's the way that it's been three years, and I'm still traumatized by this moment," the former contestant said. "I can be getting my beauty rest and all I hear in my nightmares 'Not 'Watermelon Sugar.'"

He then ended the video by singing Harry Styles' song out of tune.

After opening up about his experience, TikTok commenters sided with Perry and applauded her for being so real. They also repeated her question and asked Carrion "why 'Watermelon Sugar'?"

Katy Perry is yet to respond to the video.

Styles, a former One Direction member, dropped the hit song from his second studio album, "Fine Line," in 2019. It was then re-released as the album's fourth single in May 2020.

Critics and the public showered the track with positive responses. Styles also garnered several accolades because of "Watermelon Sugar," including Premios MUSA's Anglo International Song of the Year, GAFFA Awards (Denmark)'s International Hit of The Year, 2021 ASCAP Pop Music Awards' Most Performed Pop Songs of 2020, MTV Video Play Awards' Top 20 Music Videos, and Brit Awards' British Single of the Year.

It also won the Best Pop Solo Performance at the 2021 Grammy Awards, Styles' first-ever award from the ceremony.
