Rita Ora disclosed that the legendary musician Prince motivated her to seize control of her back catalogue during her court struggle with Jay Z's record label Roc Nation.
The 32-year-old British pop superstar inked a new contract with BMG Media, marking a significant "new chapter" with the agency, whose clients include Kylie Minogue, 5SOS, KSI, and Run The Jewels.
Rita, whose most recent studio album "Phoenix" was released in 2018, has revealed that Prince provided her the wisdom she needed to take control of her music career.
In 2013, she flew across the pond to the Purple Rain hitmaker's residence to collaborate on songs.
Speaking to Wonderland Magazine, Rita detailed that Prince told her, If you don't own your masters, your master owns you." Rita added, "He said it to me when I was with him but I never thought that was a possibility for me. I was like, "There's no way. I'm not going to get on anyone's bad side". I'm now in a position where I own my own masters - I can control where we're going, what we're publishing."
During her legal struggle with her former record company, Roc Nation, which is owned by Jay Z, the actress has previously admitted that she worried for her career.

Rita acknowledged that the stress of the situation had her 'terrified' when she discussed the five-year legal battle that prevented her from recording music.
She explained that because this is her life, she was undoubtedly anxious and frightened for it. Her music is the only thing she know, so she was really terrified. This was back in 2019. Rita told the Daily Star, "I don't know if depressed is the right word but I was definitely scared."
Rita continued that she was going through hell.
Rita disclosed last month that she was instructed by her record label not to rock the boat.
She continued that she was a massive, massive people-pleaser back then. She was trained to conform to the desires of others.
After signing with BMG in February of last year, the singer uploaded three black-and-white photos, including one of her posing near a grand piano and another of Rita displaying an ecstatic face. Rita stated that she's ECSTATIC to announce her partnership with BMG!!! She is ecstatic that they will be my label family going forward.
