Madonna sent her late brother a heartfelt message amid buzz that the siblings had a rivalry in the past few years.
Media reports claimed Madonna and her brother, Anthony Ciccone - who died recently at the age of 66 - had a rocky relationship. Amid the buzz, the singer took to her Instagram Story three days after his death to thank him for playing a huge role in her life and bringing an unmatched influence.
"Thank you for blowing my mind as a young girl and introducing me to Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Buddhism, Taoism, Charles Bukowski, Richard Brautigan, Jack Kerouac, Expansive Thinking Outside the Box," she said. "You planted many important seeds."
In the past few days, Madonna and Ciccone's relationship has been bombarded with buzz. A source said that the siblings were estranged.
Despite that, the singer reportedly supported him in every way possible when he accepted her support. It was also revealed that Madonna and other family members visited him while he was in the rehab facility in the months leading to his death.
Madonna's Brother Anthony Ciccone Dead
The 64-year-old "Back That Up To The Beat" hitmaker's brother-in-law, Joe Henry, delivered the heartbreaking news on Instagram. He revealed in the post that Ciccone was a "complex character."
"Farewell, then, brother Anthony. I want to think the god your blessed mother (and mine) believed in has her there, waiting to receive you," he ended the post. "At least for today, no one shall dissuade me from this vision."
According to a news outlet, Ciccone tried to remove his feeding and breathing tubes while seeking treatment two days before his death. It was also revealed that he lost a significant amount of weight toward his demise.
Anthony Ciccone's cause of death remains unknown. But sources said his health deteriorated before his passing.
Ciccone once revealed in an interview that he was "homeless" and that he lived under a bridge in Michigan for years. He soon made his way back home as he recovered from his treatment in a center.
Sources told Page Six that the Queen of Pop paid her late brothers' rehab care bill before his death. Unnamed insiders said Madonna helped her brother while he was staying at a Michigan treatment center as he battled alcoholism.
She soon stepped in to pay for his rehabilitation treatment when he could no longer care for himself.
