Chaim Topol, a famed actor and singer who recorded several Israeli war songs, has died. He was 87.
Billboard cited local media reports regarding Topol's death, while The Guardian shared the statement released by Israel's president Isaac Herzog to announce his passing.
The latter publication noted that Topol died at his home in Israel on Wednesday while surrounded by his family.
"[Chaim Topol] was a gifted actor who conquered many stages in Israel and overseas, filled the cinema screens with his presence and especially entered deep into our hearts," President Herzog said.
Both reports did not disclose Chaim Topol's cause of death, but The Guardian said the singer's son recently revealed his dementia diagnosis.
His family is yet to release a separate statement. It remains unknown whether his health issue contributed to his passing.

Arsen Ostrovsky wrote, "Tradition! So sad, 'Tevye' is gone, as legendary Israeli performer Chaim Topol, dies at age 87. May his memory be always blessed and his films & performances continue to entertain and inspire us!"
Chaim Topol's Legacy

He notably played the role of the Italian astronomer, Galileo Galilei in the 1975 film, "Galileo." His other roles include his characters in "For Your Eyes Only" and "Flash Gordon."
Long before he pursued different careers, Topol first started a Hebrew-language production in his home when he was 30.

Following his 1990-1991 Broadway appearance, Topol received a nomination from Tony that furthered his empire.
Topol's other musical projects included singles, albums, soundtracks, and children's songs. Topol famously released Israeli war songs, as well. Amid his popularity, he dropped several albums like "Topol With Roger Webb And His Orchestra - Topol '68," "Topol Sings Israeli Freedom Songs," "War Songs By Topol," and "Topol's Israel."
