James Blake shared a new track last night during his weekly Thursday night BBC Radio 1 residency. He's calling the track "200 Press" because "only 200 are going to be pressed up." The song features robot vocal elements with a menacing soundscape, clanky percussion bits, and wonky overtones. It sort of sounds like house music from hell, but in a good way.
This isn't the first time Blake has used his BBC Radio 1 airtime to debut new material. He released a new track back in July when he stopped by Jamie xx's session.
As Billboard reports, Blake's third album is expected to be released sometime in 2015. He announced on Thursday that he has signed a new publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The worldwide deal covers all his future works.
The details of the deal were not released by Sony/ATV other than that it is "long-term." Tyler Childs, the company's creative director, called Blake "one of the premiere artists of this generation." Blake's manager Dan Foat reflected on the occasion saying, "I had a great Sony Walkman when I was younger and we're really looking forward to working with Sony/ATV."
