Kelly Clarkson has been candid about her feelings following the messy divorce she had with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The two have two kids together and are co-parenting, despite the rather unfortunate note they ended up together.

In a recent podcast, the Emmy-winning host opened up about her children's emotions while living in a complex family set-up after their divorce.

Kelly Clarkson Kids 'Saddened' After Divorce

Speaking to Angie Martinez's "IRL" podcast, Clarkson revealed that it had been a ritual of hers to check on her children's feelings more than a year after her divorce from ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock was finalized.

Remy is turning seven, while River, her older child, is already eight and a half years old.

"I ask my kids every night when we're snuggling and I put them to bed, 'Are you happy? And if you're not, what could make you happier?' "Clarkson admits.

According to her, it "kills" her every time she asks the question. But for her, she wanted them to be honest.

"I want them to be honest, so I don't ever say, 'Oh God, don't tell me that,' but a lot of times it would be like, 'I'm just really sad. I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house.' They're really honest about it. I'm raising that kind of individual," she recalled. "

After hearing her children tell their piece, Clarkson affirms and assures her children.

"I just sit there and I'm like, 'I get it. I'm from a divorced family as well. I get it. That sucks. But we're going to work it out. And you are so loved by both of us.' "

She also highlighted that it is important to communicate with children and not treat them as adults and not as a child either. The "My Life Would Suck Without You" hitmaker describes her children's feelings and emotions as "huge."

Kelly Clarkson New Album 2023

Elsewhere in the interview, Kelly teased the content of her new album.

According to the Grammy winner, every phase of her life, including her divorce, will be on her next album.

"There is sadness. There is rage. It's a lot because you go through all those emotions. If you don't hit all those, were you really in it?" she pointed out.

Clarkson does not mince her words in describing the aftermath of her divorce: "I was destroyed - like, on the ground, crying. That's a loss. It's a death."
