The "Smash" hit is finally landing on Broadway this 2024-2025 season, and it will be instrumental for famed director Steven Spielberg in earning his highly-awaited EGOT status.

Spielberg, who is halfway to earning the quartet of entertainment awards, still needs to get a Grammy and a Tony award, which could be earned should the upcoming musical live up to its name and 'smash' at the awards circuit.

'Smash' The Musical on Broadway Details

According to Rolling Stone, the highly-anticipated arrival of the hit NBC show on Broadway is finally coming!

Susan Stroman, Neil Meron, Robert Greenblatt, and Steven Spielberg will be producing and will be in-charged of the creative aspect of "Smash" The Musical on Broadway.

Stroman will be helming the director's chair while Shaiman and Whitman, the people behind the "Some Like it Hot" and "Hairspray" scores, will be composing songs for the show, apart from those from the original TV series.

Meanwhile, Bob Martin from "The Prom" and Rick Elice from "Jersey Boys" will be writing the book for the musical, while Joshua Bergasse will be reprising his creative role as the show's choreographer.

"'Smash' is near and dear to my heart, and it was always my hope that a musical inspired by the show would eventually come to the stage," Spielberg said in a statement."We now have an incredible creative team, and I'm looking forward to completing the 'Smash' journey which began with my producing partners over 10 years ago."

Spielberg was also one of the executive producers of the actual show, which aired on NBC from 2012 to 2013.

Steven Spielberg EGOT Status

Steven Spielberg already has his Oscars trophy locked as he already has three of those from "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindler's List."

As for his Emmy Award, he was also not short of the golden statuette, as he possesses twelve of those.

The problem would be securing his Tony and Grammy.

The Tony Award is much more achievable than the other. Since Spielberg is already an executive producer of "Smash," the show just has to win a Tony Award for Best Musical, and as a producer, he would rightfully earn his. Jennifer Hudson most recently earned her last piece for EGOT with a Tony as a producer for "A Strange Loop."

Meanwhile, the race for a Grammy Award might be much more difficult. If he tries to get that Gramophone, he could be eligible to win it through winning a Grammy Award for Best Music Film, which is awarded to performers and directors alike.
