Del Rey was not a person who explains her music, but She revealed that the creation of the entire album was "totally effortless," as she wanted it to have a "spiritual element."
As per Pitchfork's album review, it was called many things. It was described to be a "sweeping, sterling, often confounding work of self-mythology and psychoamericana," which probably hit what Del Rey was going for.

Per Fennell, Del Rey wrote a song "that was as much about wanting to leave home as it was about returning home."
Lana Del Rey 'Margaret' Lyrics Explained
Like Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and Jack Antonoff are close collaborators. In fact, Lana Del Rey's "Margaret" is inspired by Antonoff's fiancee, Margaret Qualley. According to the Grammy-winning producer, the song was something that Lana wanted Antonoff to play at their wedding.
"That song was born the same way a lot of her songs are born, which is her and I singing at each other," he elaborated. "Except this time she said 'No, you have to sing the second verse.' I would say that song is the closest thing that I've heard to what it's like to just be in a room chatting with her on a friend level."
