Jake Owen is a laid-back guy who appears to never stress about anything. So it was no surprise when he told Larry King on Larry King Now that his rise from opening act to headliner came because, "patience happened" and he had "a lot of great people" on his team who were all helping him get there.

The two sat down at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles recently and chatted about Jake's first headlining tour. Jake shared that for him, days of gold are times that you remember (so he's obviously got a lot of shine in his days). He was also honest about his days as an opening act (which surprised Larry) when he admitted that his goal as an opener was to blow everyone else on the card off of the stage. "As an opening act, all you wanna do is absolutely crush every other person that you're playing with. And you wanna step on the headliner. If you're an opening act, all you wanna do go out there is completely try and one-up the guy whose name's on the ticket." Having been there, he expects his opening acts to do it now and it motivated him. He said, "As a headliner, I appreciate that. If they go out there give everything they have to try to one-up me, good for them. That's how you get to this spot."

For Jake, it all comes back to loving what you do. He said, "I love this so much that even if I was never successful, I would feel successful, 'cuz I love it."
