Before The Cure's North American Tour tickets went on sale, Robert Smith has been vocal about his disdain for Ticketmaster and its additional fees.
He isn't the only one, and he isn't the only one who has attempted to combat the ticketing giant in one way or another.
However, according to reports, The Cure's attempts of saving their fans from the hiked-up ticket prices were for naught.
The tickets were supposed to be sold at $20, but Ticketmaster's website included additional fees like an $11.65 service fee, $10 for the facility, and more.
When Smith and the Cure thought that that would be the end of it, the plot thickened, and it has gotten out of control.
'Scalper Scam'
As per other reports, a new type of scam has been born: the scalpers have begun offering fans account login details for a steep price.
"Beware another scalper scam: offering to sell/send account login details to get around TM transfer limitations," Smith announced on Twitter.
"Any/all tickets obtained in this way will be canceled, and original fees paid on those tickets will not be refunded."
Due to high demand and the hiked-up prices of concert tickets, some fans have resorted to buying from scalpers and/or secondary resale sites.
However, this has also made them vulnerable to the new scam, and apparently about 7,000 tickets across 2,200 orders have been canceled in an effort to block the scammers.
"Approx 7k tickets across approx 2200 orders have been canceled. These are tickets acquired with fake accounts / listed on secondary resale sites," Smith added.
Some Good
Despite a good chunk of tickets being canceled ahead of the tour, The Cure revealed that the original fees paid for the scalped tickets will be donated to Amnesty International, and be resold once again.
Fans praised the band for doing this move and donating to Amnesty International: "What a coincidence - about 4 days ago I had just shared a video of you talking about Amnesty. Thank you for everything, Robert."
"You're truly so many levels of fantastic. You've seriously gone way beyond anyone else has for their fan base and it's appreciated more than you know. Thank you," another added.
"You, my friend, with what you are doing, are a true rock star!"
