Will Lainey Wilson Retire From the Music Industry?

During an interview with Us Weekly at the 2023 CMT Music Awards on Sunday, Wilson clarified her future as a musician and actress when asked if she would leave her music career to become a full-time actress.

But despite the heartfelt welcome, she clarified that she would not give up her true passion.

"I will never not make songwriting my priority because the songwriting is what has given me all the rest of these opportunities," she said.

Wilson scored people's approval when she made her acting debut and appeared on screen for the first time in "Yellowstone" season 5's first episode, "One Hundred Years Is Nothing." Her character becomes romantically involved with Ryan, Ian Bohen's character.

How Lainey Wilson Got "Yellowstone" Role Revealed

In the same interview, Wilson mentioned how she was able to get the role after being friends with Sheridan.

She recounted the time she received an invitation from Sheridan in 2018 to play in a horse-riding competition. "Yellowstone" already used several songs Wilson created and recorded.

Years after their first meeting, they became really close friends. For Wilson, their friendship would lead to something, but she reportedly did not know it would be her being part of the show.

Wilson revealed she got a call from the showrunner in February, informing her about the exclusive character he specially made for her - a musician named Abby.

She did well in acting on the premiere episode, but Wilson also garnered the spotlight again when she won the Female Video of the Year and Collaborative Video of the Year at the recently wrapped up CMT Music Awards.

During her acceptance speech, she opened up about why and how she made a song about finding freedom and strength. To everyone's surprise, she revealed that the music video was filmed, produced, written, and directed by women.
