Jesy Nelson is attempting to jumpstart her solo career once again with a new song called "Bad Thing."
The former Little Mix singer took to social media to reveal her forthcoming song that will mark the start of her return to the music industry two years after releasing "Boyz."
The teaser preview is a 180-degree turn from her previous style: it shows the singer in a long and narrow hallway; she is seen wearing a figure-hugging halter top, printed skirt, knee-high socks, and platform heels-and she's rocking a retro beehive hairstyle.
Polydor Split
According to reports, Nelson is releasing this long-awaited follow-up on Apr. 14, and prior to this snippet, she has been teasing fans that she is working on new material on TikTok.
Behind-The-Scenes Drama
"Bad Thing" won't just be the British singer's first song in three years, it also happens to be the first song she will release since she left Polydor Records.
As per the Grape Juice, Nelson first linked up with the Universal Music imprint after leaving Little Mix.
It was great at first, given that she was able to release her first song, which also happens to be a collaboration with Nicki Minaj.
However, things turned sour when the label asked the singer to return to the studio after being allegedly unsatisfied with her new music materials.
Polydor issued a statement following the singer's exit and reassured fans that the split was not done on bad terms.
"Polydor have amicably parted ways with Jesy. We have enjoyed working with her and everyone at the label wishes her nothing but the best for the future."
Comeback
After hearing about Nelson's return to the music scene, fans flocked over to see what she had been working on in the past three years.
"Love that she switched up her aesthetic for this... She said 'I'll only blackfish a lil...mixedfish.'" A Twitter user joked.
"At least she's self-aware cos it is bad," another Twitter user commented.
On the other hand, several other fans hyped the singer up, and expressed just how excited they were to finally have new music from Nelson.
"She might be problematic, but she can sing," a user wrote.
"She might have a hit in her hands, idk," another added.
"I was gagged the moment she dropped the melodies."
