Christina Aguilera may be in her glitz and glamour era today as she's one of the most successful musicians in the industry, but her life was far different when she was a kid.

TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains topics about abuse and childhood trauma

The former "The Voice" coach recently dropped by Alex Cooper's "Call Her Daddy" podcast where she opened up about the truth behind her dark past as well as how she recovered from it.

Even though the incidents she experienced happened decades ago, it appears that the trauma stuck with her as she's still hurting today.

Speaking about the warning signs of being in an unsafe environment as a child, the singer said, "Fear is something that you innately feel, so, right then and there you know something doesn't feel good, and it's not right." (via Rolling Stone)

The pop star then recalled how she witnessed her mom getting abused, saying at the age of 42, she's still affected of what she saw when she was a kid because the trauma never left her, she just figured out ways how to move forward from the matter.

Christina Aguilera Childhood Explored

According to Rolling Stone, the "Your Body" songstress' parents divorced when she was only six years old. After her mother and father separated, she moved to Pittsburgh with her sister and mom to live at their grandmother's house.

However, prior to that, Aguilera recalled moving between New Jersey and Pennsylvania where her mother would drive late at night, saying she will never go back to her husband again.

"There's sweet-talking involved. There's a lot of shame also in like, 'Well, why don't you just leave?' It is so much more complicated than that," she added.

The abuse began when her family was living with her father at an army base. Since her house has paper-thin walls, she could hear the abuse on the other side of the room and despite wanting to help, the singer said she felt "terrified."

Christina Aguilera Wants to Be the Best Mother to Her Children

Christina Aguilera is now a proud mom of two children. The musician admitted in the interview that even the smallest things trigger her, which makes her even more protective of her children.

"It's why I'm so adamant with my daughter. I'm just like, the first time somebody ever hits you, the first time somebody makes you feel not right about yourself - I'm so protective, Mama Bear," she added.
