Some lyrics of "The Little Mermaid" were reported to be revised in time for the live-action adaptation for the big screen.

Two of the many songs from the 1998 film have been altered to adapt to the current changes in today's society and to give way to recent cultural shifts in modern days.

In a Vanity Fair interview with the famed composer, Menken detailed the lyric changes on "The Littler Mermaid," which would hit cinemas on May 19, 2023.

The Little Mermaid's 'Kiss The Girl'

Per Menken, "Kiss The Girl," a Prince Eric solo, will be one of the songs from the original film, which would have a subtle yet very meaningful change.

"It don't take a word, not a single word. Go on and kiss the girl," the song says. Menken noted that since people have gotten "very sensitive" about the idea that Prince Eric "would, in any way, force himself" on Ariel, there is a significant change in the song.

The Little Mermaid's 'Poor Unfortunate Souls'

The manipulative Ursula solo gets a revamp, which would be an empowering notion for young females.

"We have some revisions in 'Poor Unfortunate Souls' regarding lines that might make young girls somehow feel that they shouldn't speak out of turn, even though Ursula is clearly manipulating Ariel to give up her voice," he told the magazine.

The Little Mermaid New Songs by Lin Manuel Miranda

Given the changes to the well-loved songs, Menken said that fans shouldn't be so upset, as they would also be adding new songs - thanks to the great mind of a musical genius that is Lin Manuel Miranda.

The Little Mermaid's 'Wild Uncharted Waters'

A song called "Wild Uncharted Waters" was revealed to be added to the live-action film, another piece to showcase Jonah Hauer-King's incredible voice.

A new untitled Halle Bailey song will also be added to the film.

The Little Mermaid's 'Scuttlebutt'

"Hamilton" alumni Daveed Diggs and Awkwafina are getting their own spotlight as Sebastian and Scuttle will get their own number called "Scuttlebutt."

"It's this harebrained song trying to figure out what's going on because they hear rumors that the prince has decided to marry. They think it must be Ariel but of course it's Ursula in the form of Vanessa. It's all this delicious imagination. Lin's lyrics are to die for," Menken gushed.

The Little Mermaid's 'The Impossible Child'

Lastly, King Triton, played by Javier Bardem, will also be getting his own solo titled "The Impossible Child," but it will not be included in the final cut, only on the DVD outtake.
