Diddy is one of the richest rappers in the world right now. But like any other artist out there, he is bound to pay the inevitable bills from time to time.
For some, paying someone a week or a month might be a huge feat. In Diddy's case, he has to put out more than a thousand a day, but not for food or any other basic necessity - for royalties!
Why is Diddy Paying Sting?
Turns out, back then in 1997, Diddy confidently sampled Police's hit song "Every Breath You Take," which was fronted by Sting back then.
However, Diddy, for some reason, did not stop and thought of acquiring the rights to the song legally. Because of this, he had to pay Sting a hefty amount.
In 2018, Sting told "The Breakfast Club" that Diddy pays him $2,000 a day in royalties for sampling his song without permission.
The video has since trended again on Twitter, Metro UK reports.
"'Is it true that Diddy has to pay you $2k a day because he didn't have permission to sample 'Every Breath You Take'?" the interviewer said, to which Sting responded, "'Yeah, for the rest of his life."
It is not known when the payment started, but a quick math would reveal that it would take Diddy millions, even billions, to even fully pay the whole undisclosed sum.
While the $2,000 a day already looked so expensive, Diddy clarified the rumors and said that it was actually $5,000 a day instead - which would bring you to 1.8 million dollars a year - talk about an expensive decision!
Diddy Net Worth 2023
Based on Forbes, Diddy is already a billionaire, one-upping Kanye West on the list as he plummeted his net worth because of his antisemitic remarks on social media.
Diddy's net worth is currently one billion dollars. The Ciroc, Revolt, and De Leon Tequila partnerships can be attributed to the boost of Diddy's net worth.
Diddy became Hiphop's 3rd billionaire so far and is now in second overall. Of course, taking the top spot is still Jay-Z, who maintains the lead above all of hip-hop with his 2.5 billion dollar net worth.
He is also ranked at No. 1209 on the Forbes Billionaires list in the world.
