The 2014 Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) R&B/Hip-Hop Awards brought out some of the biggest artists, songwriters and producers including Ludacris, Chris Brown and DJ Mustard who were among the ceremony's honorees Saturday (Aug. 23) night.
According to Vibe, Ludacris was given the prestigious President's Award for his impressive achievements in music, including over 25 million album sales worldwide.
Although Luda has been absent from hip-hop while pursuing a career in Hollywood, he appreciated being acknowledged for his work in the music industry.
"I want to thank [...] the entire BMI staff for still believing in a Negro even though I've been shooting movies and haven't put out an album in the last four years," he said. "That's a lot of faith right there because I'm about to get right back to the music. This is my first love and this is what got me here in the first place."
During the ceremony, Luda took to the stage to perform some of his classic hits like "Stand Up," Usher's "Yeah!," "Area Codes," "How Low Can You Go," "Southern Hospitality," and "Fantasy." The crowd was also pleasantly surprised with a performance of "Move B***h" with Mystikal.
Chris Brown was also honored with the Citation Of Achievement for over 1 million broadcast performances of his hit "Forever." He thanked his fans during his acceptance speech.
"I just appreciate all the singers and songwriters who helped me get to this point, making all this great music," he said. "I didn't do it by myself, the fans really put and jumpstarted it where it needed to be. And I just wanna thank y'all."
DJ Mustard was named Producer of the Year and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis took home an award for Song of the Year for "Can't Hold Us."
