Everyone was shocked when Rihanna announced that she was pregnant with her second child at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime performance. While her having a second child seemed to spark joy for her, her family, and millions of her fans worldwide, the new opportunity meant more responsibility for her, which also meant that her music career came in second.
Apparently, Rihanna was supposed to perform at the highly-anticipated Glastonbury Festival 2023 but was kept out after her announcement.
Rihanna Glastonbury Festival 2023
According to The Daily Mail, Rihanna was set to perform at the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm on Glastonbury Festival, along with the likes of Elton John, Lana Del Rey, Lizzo, and among many others.
The Glastonbury Festival was slammed by many fans earlier this year after the lineup contained fewer female artists, described as a "male and stale" lineup. Besides Elton John, Guns N' Roses, and Arctic Monkeys were named as the headliners of the annual music festival.
Lana Del Rey also got angry with the organizers after she was not included in the headliner lineup despite her performing lead on the other stage.
Per the source, Rihanna had to pull the plug on her performance, given that she was pregnant with ASAP Rocky's second child.
The Glastonbury Festival Headliner Problem
One of the organizers of the Glastonbury Festival, in response to the flak that they have received, talked to The Guardian to explain the debacle.
Supposedly, a "female headliner" pulled out after she "changed her touring plans." While many would suggest that this is Taylor Swift, it could very well be pointing to Rihanna instead.
"The music industry needs to invest in more female musicians to create future headliners," Glastonbury Festival organizer Emily Eavis said in a statement. "We're trying our best so the pipeline needs to be developed. This starts way back with the record companies, radio. I can shout as loud as I like but we need to get everyone on board."
Eavis pointed out that they are trying to strike a balance not just in gender but also about "every aspect of diversity," she went on to point out that 46% of the lineup are non-white or featured non-white members.
Which artists would you have wanted to see in the lineup?
