Will artificial intelligence eradicate take over the music industry and replace all the singers, rappers, and musicians?
That is the main worry of the industry as of late. While this may be the first time an AI-generated song of this caliber has been made and gone viral, AI-generated songs have been somewhat of a trend lately.
Fans, who are curious to know what their favorite artists might sound like singing a different song might generate a song cover on a whim, or like in Taylor Swift's case, "rerecord" her previously released songs, dubbing them as "Taylor's Version" leaks.
Worrisome
According to the Financial Times, the recent uptick in AI-generated songs has been worrisome and has caused streaming platforms to block artificial intelligence services from being uploaded.
Recent reports note that these music label giants, like Universal Music Group, are concerned about the copyright and royalties generated from these AI-generated songs.
"We will not hesitate to take steps to protect our rights and those of our artists," UMG declared.
Drake and The Weeknd's Supposed Collab
According to reports, a song titled "Heart On My Sleeve" went viral on social media after it was uploaded by a user called "ghostwriter."
At first glance, it seems like Drake and The Weeknd are singing and rapping on the track, but upon further inspection, it appears that it was just generated by artificial intelligence.
The unknown user also left an ominous message in the description box of the YouTube video: "This is just the beginning."
As of this writing, the song has been taken down on Spotify, but it still remains up on YouTube.
According to Variety, the song popped out of no where and "ghostwriter" also did not leave any clues whether they were the one who wrote and produced the song.
However, the two-minute-and sixteen-second song seems to allude that it is about Selena Gomez, who had dated The Weeknd several years back.
In fact, the Rare Beauty mogul was given a shout out on the track: "I came in with my ex like Selena to flex, aye / Bumpin' Justin Bieber the fever ain't left, aye."
"Talkin' to a diva yeah she on my nerves / She think that I need her, kick her to the curb ' All I know is you could've had the world ... yeah, you were my world."
