Kristin Chenoweth and Kelly Clarkson couldn't be happier that their dear friend Ariana Grande is playing Glinda in the upcoming "Wicked" movie! Chenoweth, who famously originated the role on Broadway in 2003, revealed the advice she told the popstar when she first bagged the role.

Grande plays Glinda the Good opposite Tony-winning actress Cynthia Erivo's Elphaba on the "Wicked" movie which comes out in two parts in 2024 and 2025.

Kristin Chenoweth Gives Ariana Grande Some 'Wicked' Advice

In a conversation with Kelly Clarkson on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," the Broadway legend who famously played Glinda on the original broadway production of "Wicked" revealed how happy she was that Ariana Grande is playing the famous Good Witch of the North in the film adaptation of the said musical.

According to Chenoweth, Grande was "really nervous" when she called her as she bagged the role.

"She said, 'I want to pay homage to you but I'm scared. I want to make you proud.' I go, 'Well you've already made me proud, so it doesn't matter. Check, done that.'" Chenoweth affirmed the Grammy-winning singer.

In November 2021, Erivo and Grande were announced to be the lead witches for the said movie. "Crazy Rich Asians" and "In The Heights" director Jon M. Chu will be helming the director's chair for the film.

However for Chenoweth, she wanted Ariana to do something else.

"What I want to encourage you to do is make Glinda your Glinda. Sure, you can tip your hat for me if you want. But, really I just want you to do you," she added.

'Wicked' Glinda is Ariana Grande's Dream Role

It is a full circle moment for Ariana Grande as she has numerously confessed in the media that Glinda is her dream role.

In the same interview, Clarkson mentioned that Grande knew Chenoweth ever since she was ten years old. This is because the then small Grande watched Chenoweth on the original cast production of "Wicked" with her grandmother.

In 2013, she confessed to a KiddNation interview that playing Glinda is "for sure" the role she wanted to play when given a chance. In a Zach Sang Show conversation, Grande was even emotional when the topic about playing a role in "Wicked" came across.
