Foo Fighters have not named Taylor Hawkins' replacement, but fans speculated again that Dave Grohl played the instrument in the band's new album.
After Hawkins' death, questions about who will replace him emerged as the band confirmed it would continue performing without the late member.
The band proceeded to drop the new song, "Rescued," a track from the upcoming 11th studio album, "But Here We Are." After hearing the track, fans speculated again that Dave Grohl probably played the drums for the music project.
Did Dave Grohl Play Drums in Foo Fighters' New Song, Album?
On Foo Fighters' official YouTube channel, the band unveiled the first song from the 11th studio album, "But Here We Are." The whole album will be released on June 2 via Roswell/RCA, and it will be the first material from Foo Fighters without their drummer, Taylor Hawkins.
It serves as a follow-up to Foo Fighters' 2021 album, "Medicine at Midnight."
Upon hearing the new track, fans started asking who played the kit for the album and who will serve as the drummer when Foo Fighters go on tour.
On Reddit, fans spoke candidly about how the track made them emotional. They also noted that it seemed like Grohl played for the band in the whole new album.
One said, "I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say Dave is playing drums on the album. I don't believe they'll bring in a full-time replacement for Taylor for obvious reasons. Also, this is exactly the kind of song I was hoping for. I get [In Your Honor] meets [Sonic Highways] vibes."
Some also took their excitement on Twitter to praise the band for the "best song" in 20 years.
"Until I hear otherwise, I'm just going to assume Dave Grohl will be playing drums on the new Foo Fighters record and then they'll hire a guy who is strictly their touring drummer for now. There's been surprisingly little news on that front, unless I've missed all of it," another wrote.
The newly-released song is one of the 10 tracks in Foo Fighters' new album. The other songs include "Rest," "The Teacher," "Beyond Me," "Show Me How," "Nothing At All," "The Glass," "But Here We Are," "Hearing Voices," and "Under You."
Dave Grohl's Drum Included in Teaser?
Before the recent release, Foo Fighters already sparked rumors that the lead singer and guitarist filled in Hawkins' part.
The band shared a 13-second clip that features hyping background music and the text "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
Fans theorized that Grohl might be the one playing the guitar because of the sneak peek's "hard-beat vibes."
