When one thinks of Asian culture, K-pop and J-pop typically come to mind. But since 2020, a Thai group has certainly been making waves. The region is after all, home to numerous subgenres of the genre, not just KPop or JPop.

P-pop has been experiencing a golden age over the past few years, and this trend is expected to continue.

The Thai female group, whose name is indeed derived from the pastry, is a quartet composed of members INC, ICE, AUMAIM, and GRACE.

They debuted in May of 2020 with an album appropriately titled PRETZELLE DAY.

Since then, the group has amassed a string of hits, expanded their fanbase (fondly dubbed Twist), appeared on high-profile programs, and even been featured on the original soundtracks of a Thai TV drama titled "Love Revolution" on PPTV and a Korean animation titled Teteru on KBS1.

They started 2020 with a bang by publishing the single "U R Mine."

The members of the catchy love song are passionately devoted to a romantic partner and unwilling to accept "different opinions" or competition for their devotion.

Shin BongWon, who, among other things, has worked on Ditto by NewJeans, added a global flourish by mixing the track.

All of this culminates in a song that represents their evolution from their previously introspective style, as they embrace their more self-assured and assertive aspects while retaining their signature allure.

PRETZELLE has already been streamed more than 85 million times across all platforms, and the group hopes that 2023 will be the year they bring pretzellemania and T-pop to the international stage.

Music Times had the opportunity to interview Pretzelle and this is how it went! Read more to know this group better!

MCT: Are there any plans to expand your market and fan base to the Western market, like the US and Canada?

Inc: We don't have any plans at the moment, but we would be more than happy to have the opportunity.

Grace: After releasing the song "U R Mine," we had the chance to do interviews and promote the song through Western media, which was a first for us. If we have the opportunity to promote ourselves more seriously in the future, we would be very happy to do so.

MCT: How has your music been received by the Western audiences and market so far?

Inc: I feel like our music isn't well-known in the Western market yet, but we hope that more people will get to know our music in the future.

Grace: We have some international fans, but we're not very well-known yet. However, we're happy that our music has garnered interest from international fans.

MCT: Are there any plans for you to go on tour in the US and Canada or other Western countries?

Aum: We don't have any tour plans for Western countries at the moment. However, it would be a great and exciting opportunity for us to tour Western countries. If we have the chance, we hope this plan will materialize in the future.

Do you plan to release an album exclusively to be distributed in US and Canada? If so, please elaborate on your plan.

Grace: We don't have any plans for that at the moment. But you can listen to our songs everywhere.

MCT: How do you differentiate your band from other Asian all-female vocalist groups, such as Blackpink?

Aum: I think every Asian group has its own unique characteristics, including their music style and characters.

Pretzelle has a bright and lively character, and our music mostly revolves around love, particularly positive aspects of love.

You could say we are a band for hopeless romantics or for those who are feeling down and want to listen to our music for a mood boost.

Thailand's T-pop is another nation with a vibrant pop music scene.

PRETZELLE is a group that has been creating a name for itself as of late, and it is not difficult to find evidence that Thais possess pop talent.
