"Dancing With the Stars" has a very talented panel of judges with varying degrees of experience in Hollywood-take a look into what else have they been up to.
The beloved reality dance competition has been airing for nearly two decades now, with a number of celebrity contestants, hosts, and judges gracing its dancefloor.
It has also seen its fair share of special judges like Paula Abdul, Cher, Baz Luhrmann, Ricky Martin, Mandy Moore, Abby Lee Miller, Zendaya, Jessie J, Kevin Hart, Idina Menzel, Olivia Newton-John, and more.
However, it is the resident judges that the fans favor the most, which included the late Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and siblings Derek and Julianne Hough.
Out of these judges, we will take a closer look into Inaba and the Hough siblings' music, as well as acting, careers.
Derek Hough
According to Hollywood Insider, Hough has been a dancer for almost his entire life, but he has dabbled in some acting and singing as well.
Hough admitted that he was never really interested in forging a music career, but it was a friend that introduced him to several different genres that inspired him to make music.
"I hated all that music until I met Mark.... Until that point, I wasn't allowed to listen to bands like Nirvana," the dancer explained. "He got me into it and I actually crowd-surfed at a Korn concert at Wembley Arena.... I remember it clearly!"
Hough, his sister, and Mark eventually formed a pop-rock trio called 2B1G, which stands for two boys and one girl.
He and Mark eventually made their own band called Almost Amy, without Julianne. They played punk rock, hard rock, and metal rock music before eventually mellowing down to funk and jazz.
Julianne Hough
Unlike her brother who was interested in rock music, Hough was wanted to sing country music.
"We were in this bubblegum pop group when I was 12 years old. It was the cheesiest music and lyrics," she shared. "[...] . So bad, and we were all so miserable. I wanted to sing country and my brother and Mark wanted to sing alternative rock. We were totally doing this against our wills."
Hough was able to follow her dream to become a country singer much later in her life.
In 2008, she embarked on her country music career with the release of her self-titled debut album.
"I grew up listening to country music. I had a family band when I was about 3 years old all the way up until I was about 8, and we sang country music," the dancer shared.
Carrie Ann Inaba
Inaba was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but she began her music career in Japan.
After winning a talent show in Hawaii, she was shipped to Japan to learn the ways to become a pop star.
Unlike her fellow judges, her music career came before her dancing. She was mostly based in Japan in the late 1980s, where she released several hit singles like "Party Girl," "Be Your Girl," and "Yume no Senaka."
