George Michael is one step closer to becoming part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2023 induction.

On Friday, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame closed its fan vote and recorded more than three million votes from fans. The result of the fan vote, however, does not guarantee an automatic induction but can help the musicians to score the spotlight and score a spot in the 2023 class.

George Michael Rules Over Rock Hall Fan Vote

On Michael's official Twitter page, the singer shared a screenshot of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction 2023 fan vote, where it can be seen that the "Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me" hitmaker is dominating the No. 1 spot.

Michael scored more than a million votes, making him the Rock Hall Fan Vote 2023 winner. Following him on the list are Cyndi Lauper with 928,113 votes, Warren Zevon with 634,130 votes, Iron Maiden with 449,682, and Soundgarden with 427,040 votes.

The "Father Figure" singer started appearing on the top spot in March. He and the runners-up officially received an additional count to possibly become part of the class 2023.

According to Rock Hall, artists become eligible a quarter century after releasing their first records. However, it also noted that it also looks into the other criteria, including the musician's influence and the significance of their contributions to rock and roll.

For instance, KISS had been eligible for induction in 1999, but the band took a decade before scoring its first nomination in 2009 and finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

"It's just a great group. It underscores the diversity of what we think of as rock 'n' roll -- and really it's not just one sound, it's many sounds - it's an attitude and a spirit," Rock Hall CEO Greg Harris said.

Iron Maiden Bassist Said He Didn't Care About Induction

Like KISS, Iron Maiden has been eligible since 2004 but still has not been inducted over a decade later.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Iron Maiden bassist Steve Harris previously said they did not mind not scoring accolades or awards. He clarified that he would not lose sleep if the band would not be able to get any award.

His comment resonated with what he told "Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon," saying they only aim to make good music and play live shows.
