How Making "Acid Rap" Almost Killed Chance The Rapper
In a new interview with Complex Music to mark the 10th anniversary of the record, the 30-year-old "The Highs & The Lows" rapper revealed that his mixtape almost led to his death.
He recalled how he binged drugs while making music at that time, as he had already started making enough money after his first headlining tour to rent his own house and spend thousands of dollars on drugs.
"This was my first time living outside of my parents' house in another city and having money and doing a lot of drugs, like, a lot, a lot, a lot of drugs," he said. "And just like becoming a different person, like a lesser person than I am now."

Chance The Rapper credited his "spirit" that saved him and helped him become a better version of himself, saying he would have died at that time if he did not push himself.
Elsewhere in the interview, he compared his album to several 2013 albums, including Mac Miller's "Watching Movies With The Sound Off," Drake's "Nothing Was the Same," Kanye West's "Yeezus," and J. Cole's "Born Sinner."
He explained that his songs like "Chain Smoker" was their own thing and that there was no other album that had a song like that. With that, he believes that his songs have an influence, especially on newer artists.
