On Sunday, Colin Stough secured his place in the Top 10 of "America Idol" after two other competitors were sent home.
But fans soon took to social media to call out the 18-year-old finalist for his alleged "disgusting" past actions.
The last few weeks of the show will feature Wé Ani, Marybeth Byrd, Megan Danielle, Haven Madison, Warren Peay, Zachariah Smith, Oliver Steele, Iam Tongi, and Tyson Venegas, alongside country singer Colin.
Notably, over the weekend, fans noticed some concerning posts posted to Colin's Instagram and Facebook in the past. This led to a great deal of speculation about his character, in a report by The Sun.
This past June, Colin shared a striking meme on social media.
It featured an image of an African American man wearing sagging pants juxtaposed with the Confederate War Memorial statue, initially constructed in 1905, located near Covington, Georgia.
According to the caption, "How does a statue being in the same place for 100 years suddenly become offensive and men walking around in public with there a** showing not offensive? Are people really this ignorant?"
In the winter of 2020, Colin was mentioned in a post from D.T.D. (Deer Turkey & Ducks) Outdoors & Monroe County Whitetails Unlimited is dedicated to preserving and promoting wild animal hunting and shooting activities.
The caption said, "Congratulations!!! Colin Stough for getting a little predator control done and meat in the freezer."
July 2020 saw a heated debate unfold on "Idol" fan pages when Colin shared a post titled "Donald Trump says flying the Confederate flag is 'freedom of speech.'"
Accompanying the story was a photo showing Colin possessing a sizeable wild cat he had presumably hunted and killed.
In late 2018, a post shared on social media purporting to support the Confederate flag from "American Idol" star Colin sparked heated debate.
Many people in the U.S. view this symbol as representing racism and discrimination. Furthermore, Colin's response - or lack thereof - to a racial slur used in one of his Instagram videos caused even more controversy. Ultimately, he failed to condemn the language that had been used.
Compared to former Season 19 contestant Caleb Kennedy, who was removed due to a racially insensitive video posted online, the Mississippi native's past is subject to much speculation.
Colin's post created much discussion on Reddit, with a critic titling the thread "Does 'American Idol' have another Caleb Kennedy on their hands?"
While some argued that Colin had done nothing wrong and, thus there was no need to punish him, others were notably taken off guard.
