Bringing the 2014 Emmy Awards to a serious segment, singer Sara Bareilles performed a stunning version of "Smile" during the ceremony's "In Memoriam" portion.
Paying tribute to the many we lost this year, including Maya Angelou, James Avery, Casey Kasem, Bob Hoskins, Elaine Stritch, Richard Attanborough, Don Pardo, Lauren Bacall, James Garner, and, of course, the late Robin Williams, Bareilles' performance was undeniably moving as she proved to not miss a note, a key or a beat.

Before kicking off her Emmy performance, Bareilles posted a photograph on her Instagram account apparently getting ready for the evening. The accompanying caption read, "Me and the girls getting ready for tonight. #emmys (!!)."
Just after Bareilles' performance, comedian Billy Crystal took to the stage to pay tribute to his friend Robin Williams. The two were incredibly close, and it was the first time Crystal spoke out about his fellow comic's unfortunate death following a tweet with the message, "No words." That tweet was posted the day of Williams' death: August 11, 2014.
This time, however, Crystal was filled with emotional stories about his friend, ones that made us all remember just how much the comedian touched our hearts ... and how much he undoubtedly made us laugh.
