Drake wasn't present at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards when he won the Moonman for Best Hip-Hop Video with the "Hold On, We're Going Home" visuals. Instead, his friend Common accepted the award on his behalf.
However, during last night's Drake Vs. Lil Wayne tour stop at Boston's Xfinity Center, he took the time to thank his fans for the honor.
Lil Wayne played the part of Common and reenacted the winner announcement, and Drake pretended like he was surprised, looking around and pointing to himself, mouthing, "Who? Me?"
"Thank you, Common," he joked. "First of all I want to thank God. I'd also like to thank my mother because I love her very much. I'd also like to thank Lil Wayne because we all know none of this would be possible without that man right there."
He then managed to poke a little fun at his win.
"And I'd also like to say, I know this is a hip-hop award, and I know a lot of you out there are frustrated, like this is not a hip-hop song. And you know what? You're right; I tricked you all. Rappers, better luck next year. Thank you!"
Drake had been up against Childish Gambino's "3005," Eminem's "Berzerk," Kanye West's "Black Skinhead," and Wiz Khalifa's "We Dem Boyz" for the Best Hip-Hop Video award.
