The Writers Guild of America have been on strike for almost a week already, impairing shows all over the west and east coast as they attempt to negotiate a fair deal for writers in general. Actors and other industry figures have expressed their solidarity to the union strike, as it was needed to put pressure on the producers and industry execs.
Most recently, Imagine Dragons took to the picket and stood in solidarity with the writers, even performing an impromptu concert on the curbside.
Imagine Dragons WGA Picket Strike Performance
Standing tall with writers from all over Hollywood and other entertainment companies, Imagine Dragons surprised many picketers and protesters as they indulged them with an acoustic performance of their two hit songs.
Performing their smash classics "Radioactive" and "Whatever It Takes" - Imagine Dragons had everyone cheering for them as they sang stripped-down, acoustic versions of the song.
They joined picketers in front of the Netflix Headquarters in Los Gatos, California. Protesters join them in unison in some parts and began chanting "Imagine, Dragons" at one point.
Speaking to TMZ, Dan Reynolds, the band's vocalist had this to say about their show of force:
"We just want fair compensation for people who put in the time and are incredible creators. We have many friends who are writers. The writers are the ones who make all of the magic happen. My greatest joy comes from these people - the writers."
Supporters online have voiced out their delight in seeing the band standing with the writers.
"Shoutout at least some celebrities stepping up to show support man," someone suggested.
"Think about what a band would be without lyrics!" another mulled.
"artists supporting artists " one wrote.
Artists Support WGA Strike
In the past week, many artists went to the picket line and expressed their support for the writers on strike.
Notably, "SNL" comedian Pete Davidson was seen handing out boxes of pizzas to picketers. "SNL" was one of the first shows to shut down amid the strike announcement. Davidson was supposed to host "SNL" on the same week it was canceled.
"Abbott Elementary" stars Quinta Brunson and Lisa-Ann Walters also stood in solidarity with them. The Emmy-winning sitcom withheld their writer's room for Season 3 as the strike commenced.
Actor Rob Lowe was also spotted on the picket. Notably, Jennifer Coolidge who was honored to be part of the Comedic Genius Award Club at the 2023 MTV Movie and TV Awards shed light on the plight of the WGA in her impassioned speech.
