Why did The Agonist disband?
The Agonist officially called it quits after promoting as a band for nearly two decades. The band delivered the news through a statement on its social media account on Wednesday.
The Agonist Reveals Why It Disbanded
On The Agonist's official Facebook page, the band revealed that it came up with the decision while respecting the members' personal lives and wishes.
"We have decided that THE AGONIST, as a band, has come to an end," it said. "Much deliberation and care has been put into making this decision, and unfortunately, given the circumstances, this is the conclusion that makes the most sense for the band and us as individuals."
The band also cited several factors as the reasons behind its split. According to the group, The Agonist had to disband due to personal, financial, and industry-related issues.
Amid the heartbreaking turn of events, The Agonist expressed its gratitude for fans who have supported them in every way over the past years. It also disclosed that some members would continue working on music while others would focus on their families and other endeavors.
Meanwhile, the now-disbanded band asked everyone to respect the members' privacy and follow their respective social media pages for updates regarding their next schedules.
Where Will The Agonist Members Go?
Fans learned about the members' next schedules through the same statement.
The Agonist's vocalist, Vicky Psarakis, will reportedly continue working with her band, Sicksense, ahead of the arrival of its new EP this summer. She is also scheduled to play in two live shows in Montreal in June.
Meanwhile, drummer Simon McKay will reportedly join another band while working on his solo project.
Danny Marino and Pascal Jobin are currently working on their new music projects, with the latter releasing his solo project, "Leading the Betrayed."
On the other hand, bassist Chris Kells will begin his journey as a videographer after years of directing all the band's music videos.
Despite The Agonist's disbandment, its merch store with Sound Escape Agency in the US will remain open. Its proceeds will be used to help the band pay off its remaining debt.
The split came after the band's performed again for the first time in two years at Theatre Corona in Canada in December 2021. It also released "Days Before The World Wept" in October 2021.
