John Giblin, a famed bassist who worked with musicians like Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel, has died. He was 71.

Osibisa, the band he recently worked with, confirmed the saddening news through a since-deleted Facebook post (via NME). Producer Robert M. Corich also shared the development with his followers on the same social media platform.

John Giblin Dead at 71

Both posts confirmed that the musician died Sunday in Cheltenham after "battling illness." It did not disclose John Giblin's exact cause of death or the particular health issue he suffered from.

"Fellow musicians, family, friends, fans and the studio world in general have lost a truly amazing human being and musician who has certainly left a deep musical legacy and a beautiful imprint for everyone he was involved with," the statement read. "R.I.P. John, it was a pleasure and a privilege to work with you and we are all going to miss you. There really is a hole in the world with John's passing."

Born in Bellshill, Scotland, in 1952, Giblin started showing his love for music when he was in his early teens. He soon moved to Manchester to become a bass player but jetted to London a few years later to join the band, Gonzalez.

His career skyrocketed from there, opening the doors for him to work with more artists and start touring with them. After his work with Al Green and Brand X, he became part of Simple Minds and played with the band for its three albums.

However, Giblin opted to return to his job as a studio musician afterward.

During his active career years, the bassist expanded his network and worked with renowned musicians including Elton John, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Jon Anderson, Wendell Richardson, Donovan, and Roberta Flack, among others.

Kate Bush Remembers Friend, Collaborator John Giblin

Among Giblin's collaborators, the bassist savored the most spotlight when he worked with Kate Bush.

Their partnership started when he first worked for the singer's singles, "Babooshka" and "Breathing," for her album "Never For Ever." They also collaborated for bass and backing vocals for Peter Gabriel's "No Self Control."

In the years thereafter, Giblin continuously contributed to Bush's hit records including "The Sensual World," "The Red Shoes," "Aerial," "Director's Cut," and "50 Words For Snow."

This also led Bush to select him to become part of her band for her highly-anticipated comeback shows in the 2014's "Before The Dawn" residency.

Following his death, Bush posted a lengthy tribute on her website in which she called him one of her "very dearest and closest friends" for over 40 years.
