Queen frontman Freddie Mercury wrote a song about The Beatles John Lennon after the tragic assassination.

The Beatles fans received the heartbreaking news about Lennon's death on Dec. 8, 1980. At that time, the musician was shot at a close range by his crazed fan, Mark David Chapman.

Messages and tributes poured from that day forward, but Mercury had another way to pay respects to Lennon following his tragic death.

Freddie Mercury Composed a Queen Song For John Lennon

When Queen dropped its 10th album, "Hot Space," the band included a Mercury-written song, "Life Is Real (Song For Lennon)." Although the band did not release it as a single, Queen earned praise as it left a huge impact on the music industry.

According to the late Queen frontman, he wrote the track as a direct response to Lennon's death while expressing the band's love for him and his music.

The same song also made a reference to Lennon's song, "Love," as it included the line "Love is real."

"Music will be my mistress / Loving like a whore / Lennon is a genius / Living in ev'ry pore," a line from Queen's song for Lennon read.

John Lennon's Tragic Death

The world was left in deep grief after local media outlets confirmed Lennon's death.

The late Beatle was shot and killed by his fan and murderer, Mark David Chapman, while he was entering a Manhattan apartment. After the suspect killed him at a close range four times, he stayed by his side and waited for the paramedics and police to arrive while reading "The Catcher in the Rye." The book reportedly inspired his brutal killing.

He soon admitted to his crime and said that he killed the musician after he infamously commented that "The Beatles were more popular than Jesus" in one of his interviews.

According to Chapman, he planned the murder for months until the day of the crime as he waited for him at The Dakota.

Meanwhile, Lennon was rushed to the Roosevelt Hospital where he was later declared dead despite trying to revive him for 20 minutes after the bullets shredded his internal organs.

Chapman, on the other hand, is currently serving his 20 years to life sentence at the Green Haven Correctional Facility.
