In 2009, Smith had recorded two songs, but, it would have been a couple of years before they make a major breakthrough in the music business, as per Biography.com. Sam studied music throughout the time that they were a teen, until they got their big break in music.

How Sam Smith Started His Music Career

Sam's journey to fame in their music career began when Smith contributed vocals to the dance/electronica group, Disclosure's 2012 song, "Latch." Smith's melodic falsetto voice was highlighted over Disclosure's electronic beat in the making of this song. Not too long afterwards, Sam released their own solo single called, "Lay Me Down," and the rest has been history.

First Non-Binary Artist to Top Billboard Hot 100

Sam Smith and Kim Petras marked a milestone in history after having become the first non-binary and transgender artists, respectively, to top the Billboard Hot 100 with their hit song, "Unholy." As per Opb.org, "Unholy" ascended to number one in October 2022. Sam's other hit song, "Stay With Me" topped the number two spot of the same chart back in 2014.

The "Too Good at Goodbyes" singer recently cancelled their UK show late last month after getting backlash from talk show host, Piers Morgan. Morgan, alongside guests, Douglas Murray and James Barr, criticized the singer in the former's talk show, "Talk TV" due to the provocative impression Sam made in their recent live performances, as per reported in Express.co.uk.
