Where is Mark David Chapman, the man who assassinated John Lennon, now?

Forty-two years ago, The Beatles fans were rocked by devastating news about Lennon's death. Reports confirmed that Chapman, an obsessed fan, traveled from Hawaii to New York just to kill the musician.

Decades after the tragic death of Lennon, Chapman's whereabouts and status became hot topics again.

Where Is John Lennon's Killer Now?

The latest update about Chapman was released in 2022 when he requested parole but was denied again for the 12th time.

Reports said that the prisoner, who is serving 20 years to life sentence at Green Haven Correctional Facility in New York, has been trying to get parole every two years since he became eligible in 2000 - two decades after the killing.

His statement during his latest hearing made people's hairs rise, as Chapman told the parole board that he knew it was wrong for him to kill Lennon. However, he was reportedly seeking fame and had "evil" in his heart when he committed the crime.

Chapman also told the board that he indeed acted on a "compulsion" to shoot and kill the "Hey Jude" hitmaker.

His September hearing let the world know where he is right now decades after the killing. He will stay in the facility until he tries again for parole in 2024.

In return, Lennon's widow Yoko Ono sends a letter to the parole board every two years to request the extension of Chapman's imprisonment.

The obsessed fan infamously traveled from Hawaii to New York to kill The Beatles member.

Did Someone Else Kill John Lennon?

As Chapman serves his prison sentence, an author recently made a claim regarding another gunman who possibly killed Lennon.

British author and TV producer David Whelan said his documentary and book would detail the possibility of a second shooter killing Lennon. Whelan, according to New York Post, alleged that the CIA brainwashed the suspect to become its patsy.

He told the news outlet that there was a more professional gunman who shot him from the front and killed him by targeting his chest.

Whelan supported his claims by interviewing Dr. David Halleran and nurses Barbara Kammerer and Dea Sato who tried to revive Lennon at the Roosevelt Hospital. He noted that the official narrative said Lennon was shot from behind, but the people he talked to said he was shot in front.

He explained that the crime was done that night, but Chapman was 25 feet away from Lennon. Since the bullets ultimately killed the musician, Whelan assumed someone professional pulled the trigger.

He cited Dr. Halleran's statement that even a Navy Seal could not shoot the same way from a distance. However, his claims are yet to be confirmed.
