The identity of the drummer of the recent Foo Fighters songs has been revealed.
Foo Fighters have been releasing a new set of songs that serve as their first music since Taylor Hawkins' death. Fans started speculating that David Grohl probably took over the role as he also can play the drums, but the band finally revealed its new drummer ahead of the album release and its scheduled tours.
Who Is Foo Fighters' New Drummer?
On Sunday, Foo Fighters dropped their studio session "Foo Fighters: Preparing Music For Concerts" at the band's 606 studios in Northbridge, California. It featured debut performances of their upcoming songs from the upcoming 11th album, "But Here We Are," and behind-the-scenes footage.
The livestream soon introduced Foo Fighters' new drummer, Josh Freese, after the band teased that other drummers could replace Hawkins, including Tommy Lee, Tool's Danny Carey, and Red Hot Chili Peppers and Hawkins' close friend, Chad Smith.
Freese became Foo Fighters' third drummer, following their first drummer, Sunny Day Real Estate's William Goldsmith, who was replaced by Hawkins in 1997.
The confirmation came after Pearl Jam's Matt Cameron and the Darkness' Rufus Taylor both dismissed the claims that they would fill in the missing position in the band.
Foo Fighters also hyped fans during the streaming event by playing three songs from their upcoming album: "Rescued," "Under You," and "Nothing At All." They followed them with performances of their hit songs like "All My Life" and a cover of Huey Lewis and the News' "Working' for a Living'."
Who Is Josh Freese, Foo Fighters' New Drummer?
Freese serves as one of the most famous and respected session drummers in the rock industry who has been friends with Grohl and Foo Fighters members for a long time. He initially sparked rumors that he would be Hawkins' replacement when he joined the band during the tribute concerts in 2022 at London's Wembley Stadium and Los Angeles' Kia Forum.
He has been playing drums for different music acts and bands since 1989, including Vandals, Devo, Guns N' Roses, the Offspring, Paramore, and Replacements to Sting, among others.
He will officially join Foo Fighters in their 2023 tour, which will start on May 24 at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion, and will last until the two-day show at Austin City Limits on Oct. 7 and Oct. 14.
