Metallica guitarist and frontman James Hetfield was reported to have been doing some humanitarian work behind closed doors without many people knowing.
Hetfield, 59, was said to have taken a short break from making music after he was seen at a Colorado hospital earlier this month in May 2023.
James Hetfield Helps Ukrainian Soldiers In Hospital
According to Vail Daily, one of the local publications in Vail, Colorado, Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently visited Vail Health Hospital to visit some wounded Ukrainian soldiers getting treatment at the said American hospital.
It was unclear when the actual visit occurred, but the report was published on May 18, 2023.
According to the outlet, Hetfield visited the facility when Kelli Rohrig, the co-founder of Limbs for Liberty, visited Ukrainian soldier Roman Denysiuk. As Rohrig alighted her truck at the parking lot, Hetfield followed, greeting her, to which the former explained Denysiuk's situation.
Limbs for Liberty is a non-profit organization founded in Vail, Colorado, to support Ukrainians who have been injured during the war. Denysiuk was brought to the facility in early May 2022 after sustaining a broken femur injury.
As explained by the outlet, Hetfield proceeded to visit the facility and even posed for photos with the soldiers at one point. The frontman even gave Denysiuk and another Ukrainian soldier some words of affirmation and well-wishes during their brief conversation.

Per the soldiers, Metallica's songs are "very popular" in Ukraine.
"Growing up, we all listened to them and dreamed of seeing them," the soldiers said to the publication as loosely translated to English. According to one of the soldiers, the meeting was very "unexpected," describing meeting Hetfield to be unbelievable at first.
"It was very short, but it was a very warm meeting. It would be nice to meet him at a campfire and have a drink, instead of the hospital," the other soldier had hoped.

Metallica Makes Big Move For Ukraine
This was not the first time that Metallica has made a big move for Ukrainians. Last year, the beloved metal band donated half a million dollars to Ukrainian refugees through their very own All Within My Hands Foundation. (via NME)
"We are inspired, humbled, and beyond proud to support their teams currently in six European countries serving the millions of Ukrainians who have been forced to leave their homes," the band's statement read.
