Cher visited Tina Turner in Switzerland during the "What's Love Got to Do With It" singer's final days alive, and their times together are insightful and full of life despite the drab situation.
"I started going to visit her because I thought, 'I need to put this time into our friendship, so she knows we haven't forgotten her," the "Believe" singer told "The Beat With Ari Melber" during her appearance at the show.
She revealed that she and other people, whom she did not name, took turns visiting Turner and spending time with her.
"She fought this sickness for such a long time and she was so strong as you think she would be," Cher continued.
Happy Front
However, she also added that despite the cheerful and lively front Turner put on in front of her visitors, the late singer admitted that she longer wanted to "put up" with her illness anymore.
Despite her sadness and feeling forlorn, Turner refused to bring down the mood of her visitors and tried to put up a happy front.
"... She was having a good time in spite of the fact that she was really sick and not wanting people to know about it."
Death
According to reports, Turner died after her years-long bout with cancer and its other complications. She was 83.
She retired from the music industry several years back and moved to Switzerland, where she made a home for herself and finally settled down.
After years and years of pain and abuse, Turner found her happy ending in the arms of a man who cherished her and in a home she built for herself.
Following her death, tributes poured in. Artists and other celebrities, like Angela Bassett praised the singer for owning her pain and trauma and turning it into powerful and beautiful music.
"How do we say farewell to a woman who owned her pain and trauma and used it as a means to help change the world?" Bassett wrote.
As one of the most beloved artists across generations, Turner's death left fans speechless and grief-stricken.
CEO of The Recording Academy, Harvey Mason Jr., had this to say about the late singer: "Tina Turner was an icon and a trailblazer who broke barriers for women on and off the stage throughout her incredible career."
