Tina Turner considered assisted suicide to put an end to her health struggles, reports revealed.
Turner's representative delivered the heartbreaking news about the singer ultimately passing away on May 24 in her Kusnach home near Zurich, Switzerland, at the age of 83 from natural causes.
Seven years before her death, the legendary singer nearly had her life ended through assisted suicide.
Tina Turner Wanted To Have Assisted Suicide
Turner first spoke about her plans in a serialization of her autobiography in the Daily Mail. At that time, she candidly opened up that she "began to think about death" through assisted suicide that she even signed up for a group when her health deteriorated in 2016.
The late "Better Be Good to Me" singer was diagnosed with intestinal cancer while also dealing with her failing kidney, and she detailed how she was only surviving but not living due to those conditions.
She noted in her "Tina Turner: My Love Story" how she feared how she would go, although she was not worried about the idea of dying. After long consideration, she chose to find an organization that facilitates assisted suicide.
"I began to think about death," she said. "If my kidneys were going, and it was time for me to die, I could accept that. It was OK. When it's time, it's really time."
Assisted suicide in Switzerland has been legal since 1942, but the person dying must be the one to lead their death.
Turner's husband Erwin Bach saved her and offered one of his kidneys to her instead. The singer initially felt overwhelmed and tried to talk him out of the severe and irreversible step, but the music producer truly donated his organ in 2017 to save his wife.
Following the kidney transplant, the "What's Love Got to Do with It" crooner lived for another six years until her death.
Tina Turner Warned Fans About Health Issues
Weeks before Turner's passing, she took her time to remind her followers and fans to take care of their health, especially those who are already diagnosed with other diseases.
She revealed that her kidneys became victims of her actions as she refused to cure her high blood pressure with lifelong therapy with medication, as quoted by Metro.
Turner then shared the international campaign, Show Your Kidneys Love, while asking fans to keep the organs healthy.
