80,000 Swift fans who attended Taylor Swift's MetLife concerts this weekend yelled for more than three hours on the final night of the performances. They wore clothing from every era, including heart-shaped sunglasses, tinsel fringe gowns, and serpent arm cuffs.
It's hard to believe that Swift is facing backlash from some segments of the Swiftie community over her rumored new boyfriend, the 1975's Matty Healy, while this magical Eras Tour is taking place and while she is somehow surpassing even the ridiculous highs of 2015 in popularity.
The open letter, which notes that Healy's numerous controversies "deeply trouble" them, was posted on Twitter using the hashtag #SpeakUpNow (called after Swift's impending re-recording of her 2010 album). The message alludes to the insulting remarks Healy made about rapper Ice Spice on the podcast The Adam Friedland Show in February and the dubious apologies he made last month on stage.
When Swift hired the rapper for her "Karma" remix last week, fans were alarmed.
On Monday, Healy finally addressed the uproar in a New Yorker feature, which only served to fuel the fire. He said that the entire situation "doesn't actually matter" and that the criticism he received was simply an attempt at virtue signaling.
Now people are split. Are fans unfair to Taylor Swift for wanting her to be the one accountable for Healy's actions or is it worse that she's not feeling it in herself to respond, after all her advocacies in the past?!
One commentary by the Rolling Stone said that none of this is Taylor's issue. It's time to stop holding this woman accountable for the deeds of the men she chooses to associate with after doing so for the past 17 years. She could be criticized for leaving Electric Lady with the spirit of Pol Pot or for questioning why her father and Matt Lauer are dancing to her rendition of "22." However, Taylor is free to occupy her time as she sees fit; this is just a hot sleazeball who wants Oasis to reunite.
But some fans are also worried too for the singer's mumness when Healy has been personally offensive to her in the past.
People believe that Taylor Swift has "no self respect" when it was revealed that Matty Healy's friend called her mother "Miss Piggy" on a podcast that brutally degraded the star.
It can be remembered that back in 2016, Matty strongly denied relationship rumors with Taylor Swift and argued that it would be "emasculating" to be her boyfriend.
Should not Swift stay away? It remains to be seen where this will go.
