Tina Turner suffered from the lasting effect of Ike Turner's abuse.

Tina and Ike had an infamous abusive marriage that had been shared with the public. The duo was married for 16 years since tying the knot in 1962, but the singer moved on with Erwin Back in 2013 after being together for 27 years.

Although the late singer had the best life with the music executive prior to her passing, she frequently opened up about the heartbreaking effect of Ike's domestic abuse even after they split.

Tina Turner Said Marriage to Ike Turner Scarred Her, Children

Prior to Turner's death, she published her 2018 memoir "My Love Story: Tina Turner" wherein she shared details about her relationship with Ike.

Due to the abuse she and her children suffered at the hands of her ex-husband, she revealed that she spent more time away from the house along with her four boys - Craig, Ike Jr., Michael, and Ronnie. According to the Queen of Rock and Roll, things got worse whenever they are together.

"[My] children saw my black eyes and heard our endless fighting... I knew it would make an impression on them, and it did," she wrote in the book. "We were scarred in different ways by Ike's behavior."

The "What's Love Got to Do with It" crooner first opened up about the domestic abuse in December 1981 in an interview with People. At that time, she described her experience as something like "living a life of death."

Turner heartbreakingly shared how she felt she did not exist, although she clarified she was not afraid about him killing her because she felt she was already dead.

How Tina Turner Left Ike Turner

To escape from the abusive marriage, she reportedly walked out and never looked back again on July 1, 1976, during their tour at the Statler Hilton in Dallas. Even at that time, Ike reportedly beat her the entire time they were driving from the airport to their hotel.

The incident also left her with a swollen face. Soon after Ike fell asleep, Tina made her way out of the hotel room and spent the night in another hotel before she jetted back to Los Angeles with a help of a friend.
