Coldplay has revealed that they have drastically reduced their carbon emissions by nearly half as part of their eco-friendly world tour.
The tour commencing in March last year, began with South America, followed by the US and UK summers.
Halfway through their second year of UK tour dates, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology revealed a new study about this run. This investigation was launched and shared by none other than members of said band.
The band achieved a remarkable 47 percent reduction in carbon emissions during their current "Music Of Spheres" world tour, compared to their tour two years ago.
This proactive action is a response to a promise made back then that they would only tour again once it could be done more sustainably.
Regarding the figures, Coldplay stated that they are off to a strong start, in a statement posted on Twitter.
"And something that our incredible crew should be very proud of - but clearly there's still room for improvement."
To increase sustainability, it was explained that the tour has begun running audio, lights, and lasers from a battery system fueled entirely by renewable energy.
Additionally, electric vehicles and alternative fuels have been utilized whenever possible to reduce waste and plastic use. This is all part two years in since the tour first took off.
To be more eco-friendly, Coldplay has unveiled a new "sustainability" section on its official website outlining detailed measures for their upcoming tour.
With a focus on reducing direct emissions by 50 percent compared to their last tour in 2016 and 2017, these initiatives include using only renewable energy sources and solar installations at each venue.
One fan responded to Coldplay's tweet: "You always shine a light on important issues, and you always back up your words with positive and productive action."
"You lead the way in the industry, and you are a voice to millions. Congrats on your efforts so far, and remember - we're in this together, we're one big band."
Another said, "The world is learning from you - and I for one are following your initiatives.. I want my children to enjoy this planet as much as I have - But we still need to do more!"
Kicking off in Tokyo, Japan, on November 6 and 7, Coldplay will begin their Asian tour with two performances in the Tokyo Dome.
