After being accused of sexually interacting with a woman in the past, Megadeth made the decision to relieve David Ellefson from his duties as a part of the band.
Now that the truth has come to light that the accuser was of legal age and all of their interactions were consensual, many fans have been wondering if the bassist will return to his original group.
The musician recently spoke with the "Loaded Radio" podcast where he opened up about the possibility of getting back with his old pals.
"Well, look, I'm not the one who closed the door. [Laughs] You know what I mean," he said. (via Metal Sucks)
He also spoke about his relationship with Dave Mustaine, the band's frontman, saying he's always gonna be his brother as they shared a lot of history and friendship over the past decades.
"And look, brothers fight, brothers hug and make up, and that's the journey," he added.
Is David Ellefson Returning to Megadeth?
Elsewhere in the interview, the musician got candid about his return to Megadeth as many fans have been wanting him to perform with his bandmates again.
It appears that Ellefson will not be taking the stage with the band soon as he noted that it's currently "off the palette."
"Clearly I've moved on with other things that you can see I really enjoy. So... whatever," he said.

Even though fans will not get new material from the group with the bassist, they should expect a possible reunion in the future as he revealed that he would "always take the call."
However, he clarified that he will not wait for it because he's very focused on what he's doing at the moment.
Per the outlet, the bassist is currently busy with his other bands like Dieth, Kings of Thrash, and his solo career.
Why Was David Ellefson Fired From Megadeth?
According to Revolver Magazine, the musician was fired from Megadeth in May 2021 after he was involved in a scandal.
The bassist was accused of engaging in sexual conversations with another woman despite being married to his wife.
Mustaine made the decision to fire his bandmate and James Lomenzo later returned to the band to fill in for the bassist.
